Les Varinnes Preserved Natural Site

The protected nature area of Varinnes is an unspoilt patchwork of water meadows in the Loire river flood plain. Underwater for long periods during winter, these meadows reveal a wealth of wildlife in springtime, in particular with the blooming of wild orchids. This rich abundance of orchids is the site's major attraction and is due to the fact that the soil has never been turned for agriculture. Now the proud owner of its own letter box, "BAL'Varinnes", this location is becoming a well-known local site, and biodiversity has made itself at home in the village renowned for its letter boxes!

0.6 km southwest of Saint-Martin-d'Abbat. The site is located to the right of the RD 60 linking Germigny-des-Prés to Châteauneuf-sur-Loire.
