CHATILLON-SUR-LOIRE

Descriptive

Neo-Gothic style (late 19th century), gilded wooden tabernacle (listed), 18th-century statue of the Virgin and Child (listed), three bells (1655, listed, 1841 and 1924). Of particular note are the sculpture by Caillé in the Sacré-Coeur chapel, the Virgin's altar, the Ste Thérèse stele by Minazzoli, the Briare mosaic Stations of the Cross and the beautiful stained glass windows (late 19th-century nave and choir, Art Deco transept). "These stained glass windows bear the signatures of some of the finest glass artists and craftsmen of the period, and literally turn the church of Châtillon-sur-Loire into a small temple of color, a museum of glass painting from the late 19th and first third of the 20th centuries."
