A man of letters, doctor of law and officer of the Académie Française, André Chenal shared his time between Fay-aux-Loges and Paris, where he worked as a songwriter for the Chat Noir cabaret, whilst occupying the position of editor in chief of the La Chanson Française magazine. He excelled in a number of musical styles, via a multitude of themes and a diversity of aspects. His birthplace inspired many texts. He died in 1939, at the age of 55, and is buried in the Fay-aux-Loges village cemetery.
