As a young Parisian, Georges Thouvenot studied at the École Estienne in 1924, then at the School of Fine Arts three years later. His engraving Le Remords d’Oreste, earned him second prize in the 1934 edition of the Prix de Rome. He settled in Montargis in September 1943 and gave art lessons. A vast share of his production, in the form of drawings, lithographies and engravings, was inspired by the area around Montargis. Through his great love for his region, he strove to ensure the preservation of local heritage, founding the Les Amis du Vieux Montargis association in 1973 with his wife, France. He died in Montargis in 2008.
