Juliette Dodu worked at the telegraphic office in Pithiviers, directed by her mother. The Prussian enemy invaded the town in 1870. Under orders from the army, the Dodu family sought refuge on the first floor of the telegraphist’s house. Juliette was able to intercept enemy messages which she forwarded to the French Army. Many mysteries remain on the truth of associated events, but she was the first French woman in history to receive the National Order of the Legion of Honour.
