According to sources, Lubin Baugin was born either in Pithiviers or in Courcelles-le-Roi. His provincial origins inspired him to begin his work on still life compositions. He joined the corporation of Parisian painters and developed a style close to Atticism. His work was then inspired by that of Italian painters. In 1651, he joined the royal academy of painting and sculpture. Fallen into oblivion for around two centuries, his work was revealed again in the 20th century.
