Stevenson was a famous Scottish writer and traveller, famous, in particular, for his books Treasure Island (1883) and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886). Suspected of espionage, he was imprisoned for a few days in a dungeon in the police station in Châtillon-sur-Loire. He was one of the first to accurately describe the landscapes and customs of Pacific lands.
